In a Florida garage, a bare concrete floor stains, sheds dust, and soaks up whatever drips on it. A flake epoxy floor seals it with a hard, cleanable surface that makes the whole garage look finished.
When epoxy floors fail, it's almost always the prep. Concrete is smooth and often sealed from the factory finish, so coating on top of it just peels when hot tires sit on it. The slab needs to be mechanically ground so the epoxy can grip, and any cracks need to be filled first.
After grinding, a base coat goes down and decorative vinyl flake is broadcast over it while it's wet. Once it cures, the loose flake is scraped off and the floor is sealed with a clear topcoat. The flake hides small imperfections and gives the floor texture so it isn't slippery.
Ask any installer how they prepare the concrete, what the topcoat is, and how long you should wait before driving on the floor. If the answer to the first question is 'we just clean it', keep looking.
